What makes the future scary as well as interesting?

Mankind has been afraid of future technology since the first Technological Revolution. There were people afraid of electricity. There were people afraid of trains and automobiles. But becoming fully used to these technologies often took only one or two generations.

It is true that most innovations have in some ways caused damage, but the net effect has generally been healthy. While there are significant ethical and philosophical reasons for fearing some of them, this could also be true for future developments.

I must warn you before we start: some of the stuff you are going to read in this it can be VERY controversial. So, don’t lynch me.

● Cryonics

Cryonics may seem very sci-fi (to be fair, everything in this story does), but it already exists. There are companies that freeze you as soon as you die, so you can be brought back to life when technology and medicine will be advanced enough.

Here's a list of frozen celebrities (James Bedford, Ted Williams, John Henry Williams, Dick Clair Jones, FM-2030) and others (Seth McFarlane, Larry King, Simon Cowell, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears) who are currently alive and want to be frozen.

When and whether these persons would be unfrozen is unknown. There is still no perfect technology to freeze people, and there may be permanent harm that can never be repaired, however every year it is improving. The technology to unfreeze people, on the other hand, does not yet exist.

The saying that “we are all the same, rich and poor until we are gone”. This might not be valid anymore soon, because only poor people can die.

● Nanites

Nanites are nano-robots that are going to invade us all one day. They would be too small (unless they are in swarms) to be visible, but they would be everywhere. They would be in the air, they'd be in the water, they'd be on the surface, they'd be in our food, they'd be in our bodies, they'd be in our urine and feces. They would have a swarm of intelligence and they would be able to multiply and adapt (no centralized control). They could be used to clean the world, print everything in 3d, cure most diseases, explore other worlds, regulate the weather, and do many other things in science fiction.

Okay! Now that is scary, millions of these tiny things in your body? Nah, I would not be comfortable. The explanation is the same: hacking. Whoever controls the nanobots, has everything controlled. A smart virus would be enough to kill just about everything, even though a decentralized system would be more robust than a centralized one. Any error and watch the whole world collapse.

All it will take is one furious, intelligently driven individual to destroy the planet. That is again scary. Remember BloodShot? Yeah, same dudes

● Designer Babies

A designer baby is a baby that has been developed through genetic code manipulation artificially.

The goal of designer babies is to create genetically powerful humans, with the desired characteristics and without diseases. Without having to rely on the randomness of the genetic lottery, you can create a tall, smart, kind, athletic boy. Hobbs V/S Shaw?

Being afraid of genetic alterations is natural. Messing with genes is sometimes referred to as "playing God" because it implies manipulating the fabric of life itself. Messing too much with our genes will produce something that is not even human.

We have always had trouble with genetic differences. These differences, like human races, are often reflected in class differences. Designer babies will likely bring another class problem that is way worse than the racial one.

● Immersive Reality and Brain-Computer Interfaces

Augmented reality (AR) and Virtual reality (VR) may be familiar to you. Immersive Reality (IR) and Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) are something you may be less familiar with. By inserting the fact into your brain, IR consists of immersing you in another fact. In other words, to construct sensations, it manipulates the brain waves directly.

The interfaces that allow for this manipulation are BCIs. Imagine being able to reprogram the brain. Since the brain is the source of, well, just about anything you feel, it can be very powerful to have control over it. You could not only immerse yourself in another universe with BCIs, but also suppress your fears, change your personality, read 1,000 books in one second, interact with other people telepathically, control robots (including nanites), telekinetically control linked objects, and get several other superpowers from science fiction.

All these sounds amazing but scary at the same time considering these points .

- The interpretation of truth is one. IR can make you lose touch with your actual life, particularly if used in video games. In IR, you are going to spend more time than in real life. You can no longer remember the latter.

- Another factor is that you can be transformed into something that is not human by BCIs or at least deprives you of fundamental human experiences. What will become of you when you gain all the above superpowers? If you can reprogram your mind like a software program, what is your life going to look like? What happens if you can only interact telepathically when the simple knowledge of talking to another human being is outdated?

WHAT IF OUR MIND GETS HACKED!

● Mind Upload

Imagine you must store your thoughts in a cloud. Yes, just like the iCloud or Google Drive or OneDrive. What if someone sends Over the Air (OTA) updates to you just like for a Tesla. You will be controlled by someone for real. The thought of being controlled by someone its negative consequences will be similar to what we saw in Johnny English

Technology surely is amazing and can be helpful to mankind. But, in the wrong hands, it will create havoc and end the world. Maybe all the fictional movies will become a reality.
